About This Project

In October, a group of Croatian students with their teacher was hosted by euroMind in Úbeda, to carry out a two weeks-long internship placement. Here, they were working as farmers.

Farming is a great job where you have daily contact with nature and animals. In this case, our Croatian trainees have had the opportunity to develop their knowledge in two sectors: olives and goats. As for the olive trees, it is hard work that requires a lot of strength and skills. The trainees have learned how to take care of these trees in a 100% ecological way. In addition, they have seen the work of the donkeys, also, as it was used in the past. On the other hand, the work with the goats has been a new experience for them. They have learned how to milk them, take care of them and take them out to pasture. Of course, the farm does not only involve these two jobs, furthermore, the trainees have seen how a plantation or a farm can be run in an ecological and sustainable way.

During their stay in Ubeda, the trainees not only developed their practices, but they also took part in different cultural activities and workshops which allowed them to immerse themselves in the environment of Spanish culture and feel like Spanish people in the city of Ubeda and its surroundings.

They visited the cave of Nerja where the largest stalactite in the world is located, reaching a height of 60 meters and registered in the Guinness Book of Records. Furthermore, they saw the magnificent town of Nerja, the Balcony of Europe and its fantastic cliff beaches. So, having seen this, they headed for the most beautiful village in Spain – Frigiliana. A white village with its charming blue gates, narrow streets, millions of stairs and a supreme peace and quiet. They also took part in goat cheese production workshops. There, they have known and experience the secrets of milk transforming into cheese, and its subsequent processing. Each person participating in the workshop, have manipulated and processed the milk and get their own fresh cheese.

The internship has not only been a time to develop knowledge of the sector but also to learn Spanish, get to know a completely different culture, make new friends and develop interpersonal skills. We hope that all of this will be an unforgettable memory for our interns and that in the future they will be able to take advantage of everything they have learned during their stay.

PARTICIPANTS’ OPINIONS

Ira Frka

I don´t know where to start because everything was so perfect and so nice. I like the atmosphere that was going through all those two weeks. That opportunity gave me a great experience and opened a lot of doors for me for the future. I am so thankful for everything I went through.  And if I can, I will give my best to visit Ubeda again. The people at farm are all so nice and polite that I am grateful for meeting them, I also got some new friends from Poland.

I am very pleased and happy to have been able to participate in a project like this. I have learned many useful things related to goat breeding and olive growing that I may apply in my life. Our tutors were very happy that we were happy to help them. From accommodation to work everything was great, if I have the opportunity to repeat I will be very happy to apply and participate again.
