In July 2019 euroMind team in Seville greeted a group of students from Poland who were about to start their 4 weeks internships in various positions, such as cooks, pastry cooks, marketing and advertising assistants and housekeeping.
Students working as cooks were responsible for preparing the ingredients for consumption or cooking, washing, peeling, cutting fruit and vegetables as well as cutting meat, checking the quality of food, tasting, smelling, punching with utensils, as well as weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients according to recipes and personal judgment. They were also adjusting the temperature of other kitchen equipment depending on the dishes being prepared, seasoning and cooking meals and learning about typical Spanish cuisine and local specialties.
Housekeepers were checking if the rooms have been vacated before cleaning, making beds daily and changing bed linen, arranging the terrace, swimming pool, and hotel garden. What is more they were checking and restocking tea, coffee, sugar, milk and mini bar supplies as well as making sure that televisions, radios, lights and air conditioning equipment are working well.
The group of students working as pastry cooks were mixing raw materials and ancillary products in appropriate quantities and preparing different types of dough and creams and also making and decorating different types of tarts and pastries according to basic techniques of bakery. Moreover, they were controlling the temperature and humidity of chambers and ovens, as well as the time of fermentation and baking, displaying different products on the countertop, together with signs identifying the product and its price and later on serving customers and advising them about their choices.
Marketing and advertising assistants were providing customer service in a professional, courteous and friendly manner, creating and modifying documents using Microsoft Office and performing general office duties. They were also using photocopier, printer and scanner and managing inventory control of materials and suppliers. Their responsibilities were also processing sales invoices, receipts and payment, researching prices and purchasing office supplies as well as providing appropriate organization of invoices.
euroMind provided the group with an intensive Spanish course where the students had a chance to learn some bases of the language and break the barrier of communication. But besides working hard they also had free time to enjoy the beautiful Spain. They did the tour around Seville, visited Malaga and Cordoba and went to see flamenco show – where they could get familiar to real Andalusian culture.

This month was an amazing adventure, which enriched me with new experiences but also allowed me to get to know the culture of the Iberian Peninsula. It was also a great experience to get to know Spanish cuisine. I recommend an internship like this to anyone who wants to understand the gastronomy industry.
