In June 2019 a group of students from Poland was greeted in Seville as they came to start their internships in different laboratories. All they were encouraged to develop new skills and gain professional experience.
The students were responsible for removing residues, sterilizing and performing maintenance work on machinery and laboratory equipment. They were also saving and analyzing the results of research and experiments getting to know the tools, equipment and technologies used in the laboratory, as well as identifying and analyzing gases and sewage polluting the environment. Later on they were preparing materials and equipment for sampling and the adaptation of samples. The students assisted in physicochemical research of sewage: pH, conductivity, suspended particles and fat, same as assisted in microbiological studies of activated sludge and got acquainted with the gas analysis laboratory. Moreover, they had a chance for assistance in physicochemical tests of gases polluting the environment: analysis of dust and sediment, CO, CO2, SH2, SO2. All these were useful skills for their future careers and definitely helped them to discover new facts from the chemistry sector.
Besides working hard on their abilities, the group was also provided with an intensive Spanish course which helped them to communicate and learn some basics of this language in a fun way. Furthermore, they enjoyed Spain by taking the advantage of Andalusian capitol – they took a city tour and went on tapas for trying most traditional and delicious sides of Seville. In their free days they went on a trip to Gibraltar and Albufeira (a city in Portugal), so they had their full experience and made the time in Spain unforgettable.
