About This Project

In November, a group of 18 Polish students with two teachers was hosted by euroMind in Úbeda, to carry out a three weeks-long internship placement. Here, they were working as builder, shop assistant, hairdressers, car mechanics and cooks.

The shop assistant had her internship in a pet shop. She had the opportunity to get to know the processes of product placement, handling the cash register and dealing with customers. It was also a nice experience, as the intern was surrounded by animals such as dogs, rodents and macaws. The builder spent his internship in a family business that deals with emergency repairs. Thanks to that he was able not only to develop his knowledge in the field of construction but also had the opportunity to travel all over the province of Jaén. The hairdressers were assisting in hair lightening and discoloration using the modern techniques and hairdressing utensils. They have learned how to use the hairdryer and comb – which is done in a different way in Spain.  The main tasks car mechanics carried out were: checking the condition of shock absorbers, checking and removing batteries from the car, helping with the diagnosis of the exhaust system, providing proper care of the car, helping with changing the timing belt and much more. And finally, the cooks were introduced to typical Spanish dishes such as seafood, different meats and sweets. Some were able to participate in catering for more than 100 people, others learned how to cook typical daily menus for the area.

During their stay in Ubeda, the trainees not only developed their practices, but they also took part in different cultural activities and workshops which allowed them to immerse themselves in the environment of Spanish culture and feel like Spanish people in the city of Ubeda and its surroundings.

They also visited Granada which lies at the foot of Sierra Nevada. The trainees had the opportunity to hear about the importance of the Catholic monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand, as well as they visit the famous Alhambra, the place where Isabella and Ferdinand raised the flag to mark the capture of Granada.

They also visited Malaga and its hot beach “Malagueta”, full of all sorts of treasures in the form of rocks and shells on the shore. They had a little excursion to a panorama point from where they could look out over Malaga harbor with beautiful yachts ready to cruise. They also admired the Cathedral in Málaga, and listened to its beautiful bell.

The trainees also took part in a tapas night, which was a fantastic opportunity to try the local cuisine in a local bar and to experience an authentic Spanish atmosphere as well as the tapas specialties.

We hope that all of this will be an unforgettable memory for our interns and that in the future they will be able to take advantage of everything they have learned during their stay.
