About This Project

In January, euroMind welcomed 17 Polish students from Łódź to Seville. They spent two weeks gaining work experience as Mobile App Programmers.

The trainees had a vast range of opportunities to develop their professional skills during their placements and were given a number of responsibilities. Some of their tasks included: learning about the basic architecture of device and Android system, getting to know the process of creating and running software projects for Android, data transfer, testing the app template on a device and implementing geolocation technologies (e.g. GoogleMaps). Additionally, the trainees had the opportunity to develop their design skills through designing components of user interface in mobile apps, as well as designing mobile app navigation systems. It is safe to say the experience was invaluable to the students’ future careers.

Beyond their work placements, the students also had the opportunity to experience the Spanish language and culture firsthand. They participated in various cultural activities to broaden their horizons. First was the Spanish course! The group were given very intensive Spanish lessons to equip them for everyday practical conversations. After studying the hard, all the students passed an A1 level written exam. The group also had a Study Visit to El Cubo (The Cube), a crowdworking centre which offers acceleration programs for ICT start-ups from highly innovative sectors. During the visit the students could learn how to develop innovative ideas, making them more global, competitive and attractive to potential investors.

Next was paella night, where the trainees were able to create their own unique Paella, a Spanish specialty, and sip on sangria as they cooked under the watchful eye of a professional chef. They also attended a tapas night which was a wonderful opportunity to taste this type of cuisine, whilst also experiencing the typically Spanish social atmosphere of a tapas bar. Being the artistic, cultural and financial capital of Andalusia, Seville had lots to offer the students and they explored the city on euroMind´s very own tour. The group was also shown the best places to eat, drink and hang out in the city. Finally, the students travelled to the southern coast on a day trip to Gibraltar, a British territory on the Mediterranean. The students enjoyed the sub-tropical climate as they explored The Rock, as it’s known.

Overall, the students thoroughly enjoyed their time in Seville, and were grateful for the opportunities and experiences they received during their stay. They look forward to applying the skills and knowledge they gained in Spain in their futures.

PARTICIPANTS’ OPINIONS

Michał Grabiński

At first when I heard I got to take part in this project I was mostly excited about going to Spain rather than learning new things regarding my dream job. However, as it turned out the work experience has been much more important than I thought. The teacher who helped us learn the new stuff was a very nice and patient person. The food that was being prepared for us every day was tasty. All in all, I feel really satisfied coming back home from this project and I cannot recommend enough that other people try to take part in any future projects from euroMind.

Participation in the project made me realise what the design and programming of mobile applications really looks like. Our teacher was great and he taught us show to use Android Studio on many practical examples. Trips in which we had the opportunity to participate outside the work experience were excellent and perfectly filled the free time. For the first time I had the opportunity to apply my knowledge of a foreign language during a longer period of time, which was very nice. Learning the basics of the Spanish language from a person who has lived here since birth was a very interesting experience. I rate the whole project very positively, and I am glad I could take part in it.
