About This Project

At the end of the spring in 2016, an enthusiastic group of 20 Polish trainees arrived in Seville, ready for a great three-week stay in Andalusia. The group consisted of both cooking as hairdressing trainees.

On the job, their tasks included, amongst others:

-Using sterilization procedures of hairdressing utensils

-Lightening and discoloring of hair by using modern techniques and hairdressing utensils

– Learning about the typical Spanish cuisine and local specialties

– Assisting in coordinating food service activities to have meals prepared at scheduled time

– Weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients using various kitchen utensils and equipment

– Adjusting the amount of food, creating portions, arranging and garnishing food

Outside their working hours, the trainees had plenty of opportunities to get to know Spain: they participated in a Spanish course and learnt the basic vocabulary, enjoyed a Tapas Night and tasted the local food, were taken on a Seville tour to get acquainted to the city and visited the famous city of Malaga.

PARTICIPANTS’ OPINIONS

Justyna Skarżyńska:

‘I was very welcome guest at my practice place. The boss is such a nice person! I am very glad that I could work under supervision of such a great hairdresser as Doris is. From the first day, she trusted me and allowed me to dye hair of her clients, who in the beginning were not sure about my abilities, but after seeing an effect, they were very satisfied.’

.

Ewa Kasak:

‘Practice in Spain was a great experience in my life. Thanks to it I got to know traditional food and culture of the country. The employer and the employees were very understanding to us despite the lack of good knowledge of Spanish. With this practice I’ll have more experience and greater opportunities on the job market. I had the opportunity to visit the largest monuments of Seville and got to know their stories. I think that I would take part in such practices for a second time.’
