About This Project

Two young female students from Poland came to Sevilla at the beginning of 2016 to expand their knowledge and skills during an exciting traineeship at a foreign host company. By working closely together with professionals cooks and hotel assistants, the trainees received a unique insight into the working life of these professionals.

Their main tasks included the following:

  • Providing an efficient housekeeping service, e.g. vacuuming, cleaning, dusting and polishing
  • Ensuring the guest rooms and public areas are clean and properly presented
  • Servicing bedrooms and bathrooms by using cleaning materials/equipment
  • Laying the table, putting dishes and cutlery in accordance with the principles of savoir vivre
  • Ensuring that the restaurant and the hotel are kept clean and tidy for the guests

During their two-week stay both trainees managed to successfully complete their internship as well as making a wonderful impression on their employers. But apart from work, there was still plenty of time to relax and have fun. They went on an exciting cultural trip to Cádiz.

PARTICIPANTS’ OPINIONS

g

Marlena Kotłowska:

‘Job shadowing at the Ayre Hotel in Seville, has taught me the organization of work in Spain. It showed me how the working days of the housekeeper look like and the type of difficulties they have to face. Thanks to the placement I now grasp the difficulties of the job from a practical point of view. Although I did not manage to work behind the reception, I have to say that my placement in Seville has given me a lot of professional experience.’

Iwona Grodecka-Trautsolt:

‘During my job shadowing at the Ayre Hotel I have noticed that the position of breakfast attendant is a hard and demanding job, but it is also a very satisfying one. Thanks to that placement in this demanding hotel, I got to know the regulations related to work and I got the witness the great cooperation within the team during service. Notwithstanding the language barrier, I have managed to succesfully handle all the requirements, I was able to have a good rapport with my management team and the other team members. The friendly atmosphere enabled me to take on all the responsibilities, even the most difficult ones. And I have carried them out with pleasure and precision. Treating me like a regular worker has taught me humility and has given me a  lot of professional skills. It has taught me not to take myself to seriously.’
