About This Project

In June 2019, euroMind team hosted a group of 16 students from Krosno who were ready to start their internships in various restaurants and bakeries in the city of Ubeda as cooks and pastry cooks.

During their internships the students above many, learnt about the typical Spanish cuisine, tapas, and local specialties, they were assisting in planning and coordinating work in the kitchen, cooking and preparing the meals and keeping the workplace clean. They were washing, peeling, cutting fruit and vegetables on daily basis as well as weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients according to recipes and personal judgment. Moreover, the pasty cooks team were baking, preparing and decorating desserts and cakes and developing their confectionery skills all the time.

The group of pasty cooks wanted to gain experience not only in tasting churros, but also in making them, so they took part in Churros Workshop. They got to know the recipe and techniques to make the perfect churros. Everyone made their own to eat straight away! On the other hand, the group of cooks visited the Centre of Interpretation of Olive Oil to participate in cooking workshop, where the main ingredient was of course the extra virgin olive oil.  All together, they prepared city’s speciality – ochios, together with salmorejo and tortilla de patatas. It was both fun and educational experience.

After scheduled internship programme, they also had many other leisure activities to enjoy their stay in Spain! The group spent one day in Nerja, where they could see the largest stalactite in the world during their visit to the world famous cave. After that, they paid the visit to the one of the most beautiful villages in Spain called Frigiliana. Next week, they went on a trip to Cazorla, learning about its history and its nature. Last but not least, the group visited Granada where they could feel the real spirit of Andalusian region.

I liked my practices very much, because of my two tutors who were extremely nice to me. We laughed a lot together and got on very well. If I have any problem, they always help me. The residence is nice with a big pool where we can swim after Spanish classes. The food is very tasty and various. In general, I liked everything about my stay in Ubeda.

What I liked the most during my internship was the fact that I had very good contact with my tutor and other employees. They are very helpful and very forgiving. I feel like apart from learning many useful things, I have also found new friends in Spain. I will certainly keep in contact with them after coming back to Poland.

In my opinion, all the people working at the restaurant were very nice and helpful. They were also open and wanted to get to know me. The dishes I saw and tasted there were very tasty. The city of Ubeda was beautiful and full of interesting places to go to. On the weekends we visited nearby cities and villages such as Nerja, Cazorla, and Granada.
